Disney's Private Island~~Castaway Cay

One of the highlights of cruising with Disney Cruise Line is the port of call at Castaway Cay in the Bahamas. This oasis is reserved exclusively for Disney Cruise Line guests to enjoy all day long. Here, you'll find activities to please people of all ages. I've even seen guests as young as 92 enjoying the island, Disney takes care of that really well!

I always get up nice and early on Castaway Cay day because I want to secure beach chairs, shore side so that means being down at deck one aft by 7:45 a.m. and I sit on the first step with my coffee and book.....waiting. I have to be one of the first people off the ship, reason being that I get the island a little to myself in its' quietude and serenity before others arrive. It's paradise.

As you get off the ship there in front of you are stations that provide beach towels and bottled water in soft cooler bags marked with Disney Cruise Line. I would recommend you buy a pack of 6-8 Evian water bottles all packed in ice for about $15, well worth it to have water on hand.

Thank you disboards for the photograph.
Back at home this bag can be used for your lunches or picnics.

I head over to the Family Beach following the scenic footpath which takes me about eight minutes at a brisk pace or you can wait for the Tram if you don't feel like walking. At the Family Beach, I pick up my float and tube rentals, which I get to keep for the entire day over at Flippers n Floats. You can pre-pay for this ahead of time or on the spot using your room card. Castaway Cay is cash free and credit card free just like the ship, plus it's safer and easier to just use your room card.

We'll hitch a ride back to the ship on the Tram, when we're all tuckered out and lazy at the end of the day.
Over at Flippers n Floats, pick up your water supplies such as tubes and floats. I'll talk more about shore excursions and activities soon. With your water toys at hand head over to the beach and find some chairs. There is ample space for every guest and at each 'chair station' on the beach you'll be provided with two loungers, two beach chairs and an umbrella, help yourself to more if you have a larger group.

They used to have the large, two person hammocks right at the shore line, but moved them deeper in towards the palm trees for shade and serenity.
Castaway Cay caters to all people of all ages. Families can enjoy the Family Beach, Teens can enjoy their private beach called The Hide Out, Adults can get away from it all over at Serenity Bay and children can be entertained over at Scuttle's Cove.
Here is Pelican Plunge, the new 2400 square foot water play area where you can go down the two water slides right into the lagoon, or get soaked by the dumping water bucket.
Disney accommodates the needs of all guests, they even have beach wheelchairs!
Spring A Leak is a new water splash area and tons of fun!
Scuttle's Cove has supervised child care in a very playful and interactive setting.

You can even rent a Cabana for a day, but be sure to book early, they go quickly.

These Cabanas are very convenient for anyone, especially people with special needs, as in our case with our son, who has autism. Sometimes he just needs some shelter from the sun and sand, and these are perfect for that, you are taken to the Cabana in a Go Cart, and have a fresh bowl of fruit brought in. You have access to a quieter beachfront, floats and tubes as well as your own hammock.

Adults can relax in peace and solitude over at Serenity Bay, the Tram will easily transport you there and back to the ship. Enjoy!

Are you hungry? Then go grab some lunch over at Cookies Barbecue, and enjoy your buffet meal at the rustic picnic tables under the covered roof of either Pops Props and Boat Repair, Dig In or Gumbo Limbo, while the gentle breezes from the fans keep you cool and comfortable.
You'll find a beach BBQ with spare ribs, chicken, hamburgers, hot dogs, fish, corn on the cob and delicious sides. They even have a fresh fruit station and the ever so yummy soft serve ice-cream.

Cookies Too, has a similar lunch buffet and sits over at the expanded Castaway Cay beach.
The food over at Serenity Bay BBQ is just as good and they even have steak over there. The soft serve ice-cream is there too, everyone loves ice-cream :)
Look at the antique uni-cycle below over at Serenity Bay BBQ.

There are four Bars on Castaway Cay. The newest called, Sand Bar which is near the Family Beach, Heads Up Bar near the Stingray Adventure, Castaway Air Bar in Serenity Beach, and Conched Out Bar near the Gazebo.

Booking a shore excursion on Castaway Cay ensures that it's organized and planned by Disney Cruise Line, which in turn guarantees safety, security and reliability. Disney always puts the safety of their guests first. All the guides are experts in their fields and will make sure that you have an enriched experience. The following are the excursions offered through Disney Cruise Line on Castaway Cay and I highly recommend booking these as soon as you pay off the balance of your cruise.
The Watercraft Ski Adventure allows you to ride your own WaveRunner watercraft on a guided tour of Castaway Cay. Here you'll learn about the regions history and interesting marine life. Disney offers single and double rider experiences. Want to relax? Then book an open air massage.
Bike rentals are a lot of fun exploring the scenic sights of the island on paved paths. The Walking and Kayak Nature Adventure begins with a walking tour of some of the island followed by a kayak ride through the more peaceful side of Castaway Cay. Disney Cruise Line offers two day rentals on floats and tubes as well as snorkel equipment.
Floats, tubes and snorkel equipment. My guys loved it!
There's my Kahuna.
....and look who you see when you go snorkeling....
Swimming with the Stingrays...
Now that's cool! Thanks folks :)

Thank you Disney Cruises for the photo.

The Castaway Cay Bottom Fishing excursion takes you for a half day over to the Abaco Islands for fishing. Of course you can Parasail by yourself or in tandem and drift on by the ship.
Opt for either the 3 in 1 or 4 in 1 Castaway Cay Getaway Package and Extreme Getaway  respectively, where they combine snorkeling, floats, tubes, bikes and stingray interaction. Or go for a leisurely circle tour of Castaway Cay island on the Castaway Cay Island Cruise.
Oh, and the characters......they are adorable in the beachwear. Check the bulletin board for character meet and greets, it's so much fun and don't forget to smile :))

Whatever you decide to do on Castaway Cay, you'll have a blast or totally relax or indulge or explore and believe me when I say that I never want to get off the island. Don't forget to head over to the Post Office and send yourself a Message in a Bottle!

Beverage Stations Aboard the Disney Cruise Line Ships

One of the many aspects of sailing with Disney Cruise Line that you do not have to worry about, is your beverages. You don't need to buy a soda or water package or wear a wrist band. Most beverages aboard Disney Cruise Line are complimentary.

Disney Cruise Line has twenty-four hour Beverage Stations near the pools and you can have as much as you wish. The Beverage Stations come equipped with soda/water cups and hot beverage, insulated cups, lids and straws. At these stations you'll find an abundance of soda, coffee, fountain water, ice, hot water. For the hot water, they provide a variety of tea and cocoa mixes.

Walt Disney Studios Tour, Burbank, California.

Never in a million years did I ever imagine walking the backlot streets of the Walt Disney Studio in Burbank. Yet, there we were over Christmas vacation in December 2011. It was all real, I couldn't stop pinching myself, I was awestruck! I could not believe my eyes or the ground that I walked upon. Just the mere thought of being where Walt Disney was, was enough for me. Looking at the items he touched or dealt with was mind blowing. I was even able to hold.....are you ready for this? Yes, hold a REAL Oscar. Not only a real Oscar, but Walt Disney's Oscar for his Nature Documentary. My whole body tingled, I was shaking with excitement and boy, oh boy did I make sure my hands were clean. I don't know how many times I asked if I should wear gloves. The ever so friendly Cast Member, an Archivist, smiled and said it was okay, bare hands were fine. I was completely BLOWN away! The whole experience began with us pulling up to the security guard booth at Walt Disney Studios in Burban…
